Karen Lee is a communications and public affairs consultant, specializing in strategic communications planning for the not-for- profit and public sectors. As leader of communications, she was a member of the executive team for Providence Health Care from 1998-2002. Prior to that, Karen was owner and principal consultant of The KJ Lee Group, a public relations and graphic design agency that was ranked the 10th largest agency in Vancouver when it closed.

Her IABC involvement includes her current assignment as Co-Chair of the Accreditation Completion Program for the BC Chapter and she has also been an ABC candidate mentor. Karen was Chair of the IABC Canada Conference held in Vancouver in 1994, Co-Chair, IABC International Conference in 1990, District Director, Western Canada, 1998-1990 and President, IABC/BC, 1986-1988 Karen earned accreditation in 1989 and was named Master Communicator by IABC Canada in 1994. She has been recognized with more than 50 international, national and provincial awards for excellence in communications management and is a regular presenter at local, national and international conferences on communications planning, starting a business and meeting conduct.

Karen consults and teaches communications planning by distance education for the University of Victoria’s Continuing Studies Division, Public Relations Certificate Program. She is developing a new course in PR Management for the university, which she will begin teaching in 2005. Karen divides her time between a home in the Gulf Islands and a condo in Vancouver.
