About IABC in Canada


IABC Canada represents more than 3,100 members served by 14 chapters divided into two regions. The Canada Western Region serves members in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. The Canada Eastern Region serves members in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Through co-operation between the two regions, IABC Canada offers national programs targeted to communication professionals, including the Silver Leaf Awards, the Master Communicator Award, and Canadian conferences and speakers tours.

Some fun facts about IABC in Canada:

  • Canadian members of IABC make up 40 per cent of IABC members around the world.
  • Canada boasts four of the largest IABC chapters in the world!  IABC/TorontoIABC/Calgary , IABC/BC and IABC Edmonton.
  • IABC International manages an annual competition of IABC best practices called the Chapter Management Awards. In 2019, IABC BC was named Large Chapter of the Year, during the chapter’s own 40th year!

  • IABC offers a globally recognized professional certification program. More than 80 per cent of communicators that achieved Communications Management Professional certification are Canadians, and we make up a large percentage of Strategic Communications Management Professionals.

  • IABC also has a grandfathered accreditation program (Accredited Business Communicator or ABC). There are currently 306 ABCs within Canada, who represent 40 per cent of ABCs around the world.

Communication Management Professionals (CMPs)

The Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC) determined that CMPs can earn 10 continuing professional development (CPD) points per eight hours attendance at recognized training or a course of study related to communication.
